Invited speakers

Laura Carroll, Ph.D

Dr Laura Carroll is a group leader at the CompMicroLab at Umeå University in Sweden, as a SciLifeLab and Wallenberg Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) Fellow. She is deeply involved in the development and application of bioinformatic methods to monitor and control the spread of bacterial pathogens. Her research focuses primarily on the use of (meta)genomic sequencing data, which plays a vital role in clinical and public health microbiology.

Marie Simonin, Ph.D

Dr Marie Simonin is a researcher at the Research Institute in Horticulture and Seeds (IRHS) in the EmerSys team in Angers, France. Her research focuses on microbial ecology, in particular how environmental changes and human activities affect microbial communities and their role in ecosystem functioning. Dr Simonin's work covers several important areas such as microbial interactions, environmental stressors and community structure and function. Her aim is to improve our ability to manage ecosystems sustainably and increase their resilience to environmental change.

Lars Fieseler, Ph.D

Dr Lars Fieseler is a professor at the ZHAW School of Life Sciences and Facility Management in Switzerland.
Since 2011, he has been head of the Food Microbiology Research Group.) In particular, he determines the activity of bacteriophages and phage-derived antimicrobials in challenge tests with food pathogens.
Because of the increase in antimicrobial resistance in many food-associated bacteria, he is interested in determining the prevalence of these bacteria in food. If interesting isolates are found, a new phage can be isolated to control them.
